IMC Information Solutions: Making the Right Connections
Publish Date: January 2010
For BC-based companies with a flair for capturing the 2010 spirit, the Olympic and Paralympic Games are supplying a steady stream of work and acting as a catalyst for business connections. Just ask Ira Chaikin, president of IMC Information Solutions Inc.
"It's a feather in our cap," says Chaikin who sees the volume of work being generated by Vancouver Organizing Committee as a valuable opportunity for his company. "It's certainly given us a lot of work to do in our area."
Established in 1999, IMC Information Solutions specializes in researching, writing, and editing materials for business, technology, and science communications. With more than 100 years of combined experience, IMCIS writers and editors provide expertise from various fields of business, arts, and sciences.
The Vancouver-based company won a competitive contract editing online and traditional print documents for VANOC.
The Games have generated some indirect work for the company as well. IMCIS works with other companies to help them develop their own proposals for 2010-related projects. Chaikin was also able to establish valuable new business connections by attending workshops and networking sessions hosted by the 2010 Commerce Centre. As a result, work unrelated to 2010 is being generated for IMCIS, and Chaikin sees the potential for more work in the future.
As a company that helps others prepare successful 2010 proposals, IMCIS stresses the importance of incorporating sustainable business practices.
"It's almost a requirement for a VANOC proposal," says Chaikin. "Environmentally friendly products and energy efficient operations and administration are very important considerations."
IMCIS's own business practices include a supplier code of conduct and purchasing policies with social, ethical, and environmental considerations.
When asked what other advice he would give to local companies who would like to take part in the 2010, Chaikin believes there is a world of opportunity out there.
"The only limitations are your own attitudes," he says. "If there's an opportunity, go after it. Don't be restricted by thinking that your company is too small or inexperienced."
