Ultimate Promotions: The Right Place and Time
Publish Date: January 2010
A decade ago, Craig Daviduk began selling promotional items for his family's lapel pin and medal manufacturing business. Today, Craig and his wife, Courtney Driver, have put their creative talents together to become the imaginative brainpower behind a growing business, Ultimate Promotions.
The brainstorming couple provide fresh ideas, custom gifts and clothing for a diverse clientele, including official organizers of 2010-related events.
The Squamish-based company has supplied unique banners, medals and merchandise for Nordic Events in the Callaghan valley over the past three years. Ultimate Promotions also supplied coins for the Integrated Security Unit headed by the RCMP.
"An amazing opportunity was created for my business because the Callaghan events were organized by Nordic Sport Managers who reside locally in Squamish," explains Craig. "I would never have been able to supply medals for these events otherwise. It created an entirely new market for my company and I can now compete on the international level for contracts because of my experience garnered in this past three years."
Craig also foresees new domestic opportunities for Ultimate Promotions.
"Due to the legacy of the Callaghan Nordic centre, my company will be able to supply events hosted at these facilities for years to come," he says. Craig also recently learned that the athletes' village may have turf and training facilities after the Games – another venue that he expects will bring in new business for Ultimate Promotions.
The greatest opportunity for Ultimate Promotions came from meeting a key supplier of eco-friendly beetle kill wood products at the BC Winter Games Secretariat's two-year countdown event in Vancouver. Craig put on his green thinking cap, and now Ultimate Promotions is one of the only BC companies to offer eco-friendly trading pins in addition to regular trading pins.
"The green aspect of my business has doubled my sales," says Craig.
Because so many clients are going green, Craig decided to start a website in 2005 called "earthimprints.com" featuring all kinds of eco-friendly products, including bamboo USB drives, biodegradable pens and elephant dung paper – no kidding.
When asked what advice he would give other local businesses that would like to take part in 2010, Craig encourages companies to "go green," and says that companies should also take advantage of business networking events. "It takes only one valuable business connection to bring your company to a whole new level."
